Ezra Helmer

Ezra L. Helmer, 74, died Feb. 10, 2006, at his home in Marion.

Born March 26, 1931, on a farm north of Marion, he was the son of David and Anna Elizabeth (Eberhardt) Helmer.

He grew up and attended school in Marion.

On Nov. 28, 1952, he married Pearl Seibel at Marion.

He worked for Wolf's Creamery, Beech Aircraft, Cessna Aircraft, and Cook Motor Company in the body shop.

In 1969, he opened Marion Body Shop which he continued to operate until his retirement in 2002.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers, August, George, Dave, Albert, Harry, John, Godfrey, and Will.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl of Marion; three sons, Dennis and Marsha Helmer of Wichita, Doug Helmer of Denver, Colo., and Darin and Jan Helmer of Marion; daughter, Denice and Ray Bina of Marion; brother, Fred Helmer of Marion; sister, Ann Boese of Marion; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion, with the Rev. John Goering officiating.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
