FFA members attend national convention

Members of Marion/Florence FFA chapter attended the National FFA Convention Oct. 28-30 in Louisville, Ky.

More than 50,000 FFA members from across the nation attended the 77th annual convention of the FFA organization.

The theme for this year's convention was "Learn, Lead, Succeed."

Convention participants heard from motivational speakers, Joe Theisman and Scott Greenwood, and listened to remarks from U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Ann Veneman, and USDA Assistant Secretary Dr. Susan Sclafani.

Members from Marion also watched many awards being presented at the national level including proficiency award winners and star awards; and participated in a leadership workshop conducted by former national officers, Dane White and Luke Browning.

While traveling to the convention, FFA members toured a vegetable marketing cooperative and a tobacco farm in Owensboro, Ky., the Harley-Davidson motorcycle assembly plant in Kansas City, and Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

Members attending from Marion included Danielle Cope, Kevin Billbe, Hank Collett, Charlie Holub, Austin Percell, and Tacy Taylor. Sponsors Jed Strand, Mark Meyer, and Robin Taylor accompanied the group.
