FFA officers attend leadership conference

Seven officers of the Centre FFA chapter attended the state conference for leaders, July 10-12, at Barton County Community College and Camp Aldrich, Great Bend.

Presented by the 2006-2007 state leadership team, including Centre's own Jackie Klenda, state treasurer, the conference helped the officers build their leadership skills.

The first day was spent learning the duties of their respective offices as well as being challenged to be role models for chapter members and to lead with purpose.

An evening ropes course helped build communication skills, teamwork, and trust.

The second day, students participated in workshops on how to plan chapter meetings, use parliamentary procedure, speak in public, and organize fundraisers.

The officers then assisted at the Great Bend homeless shelter and soup kitchen, helping with renovations and improvements to the facility. Some students worked with a Great Bend meals-on-wheels program.

The third day was spent attending workshops on planning chapter activities and developing a chapter vision to engage all members.
