Florence chamber hears Labor Day plans

Florence Chamber of Commerce met at noon Thursday for a luncheon meeting at Carriage Manor activity room. Fifteen members were present.

Following secretary and treasurer reports, Brendan Krause was chosen for the monthly "Get to know a member" spot and told how he became the Florence veterinarian.

Trayce Warner reported on the upcoming Labor Day celebration. The theme this year will be "Florence — Full Steam Ahead."

Warner said the committee is on schedule and will meet again at 6 p.m. July 20 in the ambulance building. She encouraged chamber members to attend.

The chamber discussed entering a float in the parade and unanimously approved Twila Williams as float chairman.

Judy Mills asked the chamber to go on record encouraging members to enter a float representing their business.

Warner said plans for increasing parade participation include offering area school district bands a donation to help with travel expenses if they march in the parade.

Mills asked downtown business owners to be more vigilant about watering the plants in the PRIDE committee planters. She noted the committee hopes to have new trash receptacles on the streets by Labor Day.

Sarah Neal announced Angie's Food and USD 408 have joined the organization.

Warner read a copy of the chamber mission statement.

Neal passed out copies of "Kansas Traveler" which lists Florence Labor Day celebration on its Kansas Events page. The newspaper-format tourist guide is available at Florence businesses.

The organization agreed to meet again in August at Carriage Manor, and to have a sandwich buffet at Grandview Park Sept. 1 and finalize Labor Day participation plans.
