Florence Gibbs

Florence E. Gibbs, 77, died Oct. 8, 2004, at Friendly Acres Retirement Community, Newton.

Born Oct. 10, 1926, at Peabody, she was the daughter of James and Mathilda (Ratzlaff) Chapple.

On June 25, 1950, she married Charles Gibbs at Peabody. He died in 2001.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Peabody.

She worked at Peabody Memorial Nursing Home for 25 years as a nurse's aide and later a medication aide. After retirement she stayed active by taking care of her nieces in Peabody. She was a talented seamstress and made several quilts for Lutheran Relief Aid.

Survivors include two daughters, Louise Mathews of Harrisville, R.I., and Cynthia Gibbs of Peabody; a sister, Debbie Brander of Wichita; an aunt, Eva Ratzlaff of Newton; a step-granddaughter; five nieces; and a nephew.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Peabody, with the Rev. Robert Kloth officiating.

Burial was in Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
