Florence Labor Day committee sets 2005 schedule of events years ago

Florence Labor Day committee has set the events for this year's Labor Day celebration, Sept. 3-5.

Highlighting the entertainment will be Gary Nichols, Universal/Dreamworks recording artist. He currently is preparing to record his debut album which should be released this fall. He will perform at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 5.

"Judy Coder and Pride of the Prairie" will perform at 3 p.m. Sept. 5. They are the Western Music Association 2003 Harmony Singing Champions. Coder has been nominated as 2005 Female Artist of the Year by the same association. They will perform western music in the style of Patsy Montana, Dale Evans, Roy Rogers, and Sons of the Pioneers.

Also performing at 5 p.m. Sept. 5 will be Robinn Lange, a master hypnotist. He will present an on-stage journey showcasing the incredible power of the human mind. Starring volunteers from the audience, spectators will witness their captivating transformation into a highly suggestible state of mind and body.

Radio Station KZSN-FM102.1 will have a live remote Labor Day from Florence with free giveaways.

A popular event from last year, McClain's Kids' Ranch Rodeo and Muttin' Bustin' returns and will start at 3 p.m. Sept. 5 in the grass lots at 6th and Main. Sign-up will start at 2:30 p.m.

Other events on Labor Day will include an amateur barbecue cook-off, parade, kids' games, karaoke contest, car show, cow chip bingo, horseshoe pitching contest, art show, and flag-raising ceremony.

Events on Sept. 3 include a library breakfast and book sale, garage sale, soap box derby, Masonic Lodge barbecue, and the melodrama "D.K. Molar — The Devious Dentist."

Sunday events feature a community church service, potluck dinner, bike decorating workshop, and gospel concert featuring "Brothers and Sisters" from Goessel.

Most events will be held in a three-block area of downtown. There will ample food available all weekend.

Buttons will be required for all events. Buttons are $4 each with proceeds used to fund Labor Day activities. Buttons and brochures with event schedule will be available for sale at various businesses in the area.
