Florence Labor Day plans are announced

The days are counting down until Sept. 2 when Florence Labor Day activities begin.

Saturday events include community-wide garage sales, a soap box derby, and McClain's Ranch Rodeo and Mutton Bustin'. That evening, Cardinal Amusements will provide rides for children of all ages, games of chance, cotton candy, and caramel apples.

Country and western performer Matt Engels will entertain at the street dance.

A community church service in Veteran's Park will be Sunday morning followed by a potluck lunch. Children's activities will be in the afternoon, and an ice cream social and gospel concert will be in the evening. The carnival will be open during that time.

Barbecue cook-off contestants will gather for a meeting followed by a concert by Prairie Goose Stompers.

On Monday, a parade, car show, children's games, FFA Barnyard Olympics, Cardinal Amusements, and food vendors will provide a full day activities and food.

The main stage will showcase teenage fiddler Jake Tanner, a karaoke contest, and magician, The Baron of Magic.

To attend main stage events, a $4 Labor Day button is required. A $2 cover charge and button are required for the Saturday night dance. Buttons are available at locations in Florence, Marion, and Peabody.

Cardinal Amusement tickets are $2 per ride or 10 for $18. Advance tickets for $1.50 each are available until Aug. 31 at Cottonwood Valley Bank and City of Florence offices, Florence, and Central National Bank, Marion.
