Flossie Jackson

Flossie Jackson, 104, died Jan. 25, 2005, at Marion.

Born Dec. 18, 1900, near Emporia, she was the daughter of Thomas and Lillie (Jones) Adams.

She graduated from Emporia High School and attended the Normal School, receiving a teaching certificate in 1919. For the next 15 years, she taught schools in rural Chase and Marion counties.

On Sept. 30, 1922, she married Ralph Jackson in Council Grove. They moved to a farm in rural Marion County, where they lived until 1939, when they purchased a farm at Cedar Point. In addition to farming, the couple raised and raced thoroughbred horses, traveling the region to watch their horses run.

Flossie was active in the community, serving on the school board in Cedar Point.

Ralph died in 1959 and Flossie moved to Florence in 1964. She was a longtime member of Florence United Methodist Church and maintained an interest in community affairs, serving for a time on the Florence Library Board.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Larry; and sister, Edna.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Marjorie Jackson of Cedar Point; a sister, Ethel Maddern of Fairbury, Neb.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning at Florence United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Lespagnard officiating.

Marsha Jackson was vocalist. Songs were "A Hymn of Promise," and "I'll Fly Away." Dollye Soyez was organist.

Casket bearers were Barry Linnens, Kelly Linnens, Ray Wessel, Roy Wessel, Kevin Robinson, and Eric Moore.

Burial was in Cedar Point Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with Florence Library or Florence United Methodist Church.
