Food show will feature Florence

Florence's 15 minutes of fame will be at 8 p.m. Aug. 12 on the Food Network when The Good Eats Show will present another edition of "Feasting on Asphalt."

Television crews and the show's host, Alton Brown, arrived in Florence on four motorcycles and in a van April 29 and filmed segments of the annual Spring Fling for the show.

The stop in Florence was part of a 30-day trip across America for the syndicated series to film community events that involved food.

Crews spent part of one day in the American Legion kitchen to help prepare food, and assisted with a white elephant sale, and cake auction.

Harvey House served the crew and Florence City Council members a meal.

The new series begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, and will air at the same time every Saturday through Aug. 19.

County proposes 3.348 mill levy increase for 2007

Marion County Commission is proposing a 3.348 mill levy increase or $330,287, in 2007.

The county expressed a desire to participate in the WRAPS program by providing $37,600 and requesting Hillsboro and Marion provide the other half at $18,300 each.

During a public hearing Monday to discuss the proposed budget, city leaders from Hillsboro and Marion said they may participate in the program if a water board was formed.

No promises were made by the county regarding the overlay on South Third Street.

The budget will not be finalized by the commission until Aug. 7.
