Frieda Schlotthauer

Frieda Schlotthauer, 94, of Hillsboro, died Nov. 14, 2004, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.

Born Dec. 21, 1909, at Bunker Hill, she was the daughter of Alec and Elizabeth (Lochman) Batthauer.

She attended elementary school at Bunker Hill and Dorrance. When she was 12, her family moved to a farm near Marion and she attended Wren school.

On Dec. 29, 1926, she married Herman Schlotthauer. They lived on the Schlotthauer homestead near Dobbs school for 20 years, prior to the construction of Marion Reservoir.

They moved to the Scully lease in the 1950s and farmed there until moving to Hillsboro in the early 1980s.

She taught Sunday school at Strassburg Baptist Church for 40 years. She was a correspondent for the Marion County Record, writing news about the Strassburg community for more than 20 years. She also worked at Ireland Awning in Marion.

She was a member of Strassburg Baptist Church. Family members remember her for her baking skills and generosity, where she often gave away handmade afghans and pot holders. She also was a volunteer at Salem Home before becoming a resident there.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, in 1986; three sisters, Lydia, Linda, and Anna; and two brothers, Alec and Dave.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, LaNorma and Monroe Kreutziger of Marion; a brother, Johnny Batthauer of Anderson, Ind.; three grandchildren and spouses; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 17 at Strassburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Mashburn officiating.

Soloist Anita Hancock sang "He Touched Me." Mark and Sara Meisinger sang "It is Well With My Soul."

Anita Hancock was the organist. Kristy Krispense was pianist.

Casket bearers were Wilbur Hett, Richard Meisinger, Todd Krispense, Virgil Weber, Steve Krispense, and Mark Heiser.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

A memorial fund was established with Strassburg Baptist Church building fund.
