From the sidelines

It's time for another column where the thoughts that are floating around in my head, whether it's a good thing or not, are put to paper.

— I want to say congratulations to K-State on beating Texas. The Longhorns rank near the bottom of my favorite teams, and now the hype for this weekend's game is even more than before. Let's hope for a good game.

— District play begins this week for MHS, and it's another tough foursome with Hesston, Hillsboro, and Remington. As of today, the three schools have a combined 13-2 record. Ouch!

— While the football team has a chance to make it through, so do some cross country runners as well.

Sophomore Ryan Jones and junior Camille Christensen continue to impress each week on the course. The good and the bad of cross country is just one meet, regionals, determines a trip to state.

If they are on the "A" game there is no question they will represent MHS. But don't count any other team members out either.

Each and every runner on those teams gives it their all every meet.

— I sure did hear a lot of Chiefs-bashing before the season, but now Kansas City sits at 2-2 and is tied for first in the AFC West.

Yes, it's early, but admit it, you thought they were going to be 0-4.

— Give this Marion volleyball team a chance.

All I'm saying is they are going to get better, and it will be this year.

At 3-16 they aren't turning any heads, but a lot of that has been inconsistency. At times their talent shows through, and they can hang with a lot of MCAA teams.

When sub-state rolls around in a few weeks, they could sneak up and grab a victory against a top-seed.

— It needs to start getting cold. Football is meant to be played in the cold. I shouldn't be able to wear a short-sleeve shirt to the games.

Maybe next week I'll be writing about how I had to wear five layers of clothes to the game.

But I don't care.

— Go 'Hawks! There I said it.
