From the sidelines

With Christmas approaching I figured it was time for a sports wish list.

Since I know that season tickets to KU football and basketball next year are out of the question, here are a few wishes that might actually come true:

— I wish the state playoff system for high school football would change.

3-7 teams don't belong there, and it happens more than you think.

— I wish the NCAA would change it's playoff system as well. Oh wait, it doesn't have one.

— I wish a shot clock would be added to high school basketball.

Is 45 seconds not enough time for a varsity team to get off a shot?

— I wish for the Marion High School basketball teams to turn the season around, and make a run during league play.

And I think they will.

— I wish my two-year-old would stop waking up in the middle of the night. (Although he always goes right back to sleep.)

While Mitch is the coolest little kid in the world, nothing really seems that cool to me at 4 a.m.

— I wish it would stop snowing long enough for the MHS wrestlers and hoopsters to get into some kind of flow.

— I wish for anyone other than the Dallas Cowboys to win the Super Bowl.

— I wish that Darren McFadden has 200-plus yards against Missouri in the Cotton Bowl, and the Tigers fade into oblivion.

— I wish for whirled peas.

— I wish KU would crush Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

The Hokies were my least favorite team when I was growing up in Virginia, rooting on the Cavaliers.

If the 'Hawks win it will be like a late 2007 Christmas present or early 2008 one.

Whichever way you look at it, it works.

— I wish that I wouldn't always wait until the last minute to do Christmas shopping.

— You probably wish I would stop saying "I wish." So I'll just add one more: I wish everyone a Happy Holiday and New Year.
