Fuel bids approved for county motor graders

Cardie Oil Company of Tampa had the low bid for area fuel at Monday's Marion County Commission.

For 6,550 gallons of diesel fuel to be used by Marion County Road and Bridge Department, the total bid was $13,181 for an average of $2.012 per gallon.

Cooperative Grain and Supply of Hillsboro presented a bid of $13,652 for the same amount of fuel.

In other business:

— A five-minute executive session to discuss personnel was requested by road and bridge superintendent Jim Herzet. Following the session, the commission approved a 12-week family medical leave for an employee.

— A 10-minute executive session was requested by county health administrator Diedre Serene and Strait to discuss personnel.

— The commission asked Woody Crawshaw if emergency medical services personnel could assist the health department with billing. Currently, the health department is short an employee and is in need of assistance. A health department employee is willing to be trained in the billing program.

— A total of $710,026 in paychecks and vouchers were approved. The figure included quarterly payments to Prairie View, Inc., Northview Developmental Services, Marion County Fair Association, Marion County Soil Conservation, and Marion County Extension Services.

— The commission recommended the official contact person for the county's microloan program be Teresa Huffman, the county's new economic development secretary. Huffman will begin in the new position Nov. 1. Currently, Jami Williams, Marion Economic Development Director, is the contact person.

— Dallke told Herzet that he'd had complaints about 30th Road from Old Mill to the county line. Herzet said a crew was patching it. He also said he was not aware of the base ever being replaced on the road.

"The road was designed for a half-ton pickup," Herzet said, and there is heavier traffic than that driving it.

— County Director of Communications Michele Abbott-Becker requested and received a 15-minute executive session to discuss personnel. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

— Dallke requested and received a five-minute executive session with County Clerk Carol Maggard to discuss personnel. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

The next commission meeting is at 8 a.m. Nov. 13 to canvass election results. There will be no meeting on Nov. 20 because commissioners will be attending the Kansas Association of Counties convention.
