Garrard breaks three school records at Ottawa

Ottawa University track and field athlete Justin Garrard broke three records this season for the Braves.

The sophomore from Antelope has an impressive history of successes in long distance running, beginning at Centre High School.

Garrard broke his first school record at OU when he ran a time of 15:30.56 in the 5000-meter run. That time qualified him for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championship, the first indoor qualifier from Ottawa in more than 10 years.

He set the record and was KCAC champion in the outdoor 5000m with a time of 15:32.87.

His third record was set May 12 in Emporia, where he broke the 10000m record set in 2004 by two minutes and 13 seconds, with a time of 32:37.35.

"Justin is making a lot of history here," said head coach Kirk Wren. "He has qualified for the NAIA National Meet three times — twice in cross-country and once in track."

Justin is the son of John B. and Sandra Garrard, Antelope.
