Garrard places second in 3200-meter run years ago

Three of eight win medals

Centre High School junior Justin Garrard led his team mates in competition at the state meet Saturday with a second-place finish in the 3200-meter run.

His time was 10 minutes, 18.39 seconds, a little more than three seconds behind first-place runner Chad Herrera from Deerfield, who finished at 10:15.33.

As a sophomore, Garrard placed fifth in the same event with a time of 10:18.55.

Senior graduate Aaron Barney, in his first trip to state, won fourth place in boys' triple jump with a jump of 42 feet, nine and three-fourths inches.

Medals are earned up to seventh place.

Senior graduate Laura Klenda won the medal she missed last year in girls' javelin when she placed eighth. She placed seventh with a throw of 114 feet, eight inches.

3200m run: 15. Dani Hatfield, 14:08.55.

Pole vault: 9. Jackie Klenda, 8.

Shot put: 16. Laura Klenda, 31-05.75.

Javelin: 7. L. Klenda, 114-08.

1600m run: 15. Dani Hatfield, 6:37.27.

110m hurdles: 14. Eric Peterson, 17.02.

800m run: 8. Todd Stahlecker, 2:09.32.

1600m run: 8. Justin Garrard, 4:50.94.

3200m run: 2. J. Garrard, 10:18.39.

Long jump: 10. Aaron Barney, 20-06.
