George Holub

George Michael Holub, 73, died June 13, 2004, at Marion.

Born April 24, 1931, at Pilsen, he was the son of Charles and Mary Ann (Stika) Holub. He spent his childhood on the family farm.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for seven years and saw active duty in the Korean conflict where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.

A skilled mechanic, he worked more than 20 years as the Marion County shop foreman. In his retirement, he was a lawnmower and engine repair specialist and enjoyed spending coffee time at Ampride in Marion.

In October 1964, he married Lois Maxine North.

He was a lifelong member of St. John Nep. Church, Pilsen, Ecker-Fulkerson-Slifer VFW Post #6958, and the National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Valerian, Theo, and Paul; and a sister, Beatrice Vinduska.

Survivors include six children, Aline and Tom DePew of Auburn, Calif., Debbie and Bernard Walline of McPherson, Benny and Sheryl Key of Lincolnville, Christine and Philip Carrig of Cupertino, Calif., Julie and Dan Hess of Salina, and Charles and Kathy Holub of Florence; a brother, Wencel "Jim" Holub of Marion; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Nep. Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, Pilsen.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Pilsen church with Father Steve Gronert as celebrant.

Burial will be in Pilsen Church Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the Pilsen Community Center.
