George Waners to celebrate 50th anniversary years ago

George E. and Patricia Waner will celebrate their golden anniversary Aug. 8 with a Mass, reception, and open house.

Family, friends, and church family are invited to attend a Mass of Thanksgiving and renewal of wedding vows beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen. A reception and open house will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Mark's Activity Center in Marion.

The event will be hosted by their three children, son, Leo Waner and wife, Julie, of Waunakee, Wisc., daughters, Mary Kay Holland and husband, David, of Shawnee, Okla., and Ann Marie Buckendahl and husband, Steven, of Benton. The couple has six grandchildren, Rachel, Alex, and Nicole Waner, Matthew and Katie Holland, and Claire Buckendahl.

Patricia Meysing and George E. Waner were married Aug. 12, 1954, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen. The Rev. Arthur Tonne officiated.

Wedding attendants were Pauline Meysing, Madelyn Reznicek, Kathleen Steiner, JoAnn Svoboda, Joan Waner, Bernard Meyseing, Richard Meysing, Ted Svoboda, Ernest Waner, and John Waner Jr. Linda Loney and Tom Reznicek were flower girl and ring bearer. Pilsen Church Choir with soloist Mary Ann Miller provided vocal music. Mrs. Alfonse Klenda was organist.

The Waners have lived north of Marion their entire married life. George spent four years with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He owned and operated an auto repair and pattern maker shop since 1954. He also taught auto mechanics for seven years in Hillsboro and Emporia. He is now retired. Patsy taught in district elementary schools for 35 years including 27 years with Marion-Florence USD 408. She retired in 1997.
