Gifts to Centre Education Foundation are tax-deductible

Centre Education Foundation, Inc. was notified this spring by the IRS that its application for tax-exempt status was approved under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

This means that charitable donations to the foundation are now tax deductible.

"The foundation gives patrons and alumni a wonderful way to support Centre students and teachers," said Jerri Kemble, district superintendent. "The foundation was established to receive and administer cash donations, bequests, or other assets that will enhance the educational programs of Centre USD #397."

According to Kemble, the foundation accepted its first donation at the July 9 board of trustees meeting. Robert Kiblinger, former Centre superintendent and K-12 principal, who spearheaded the creation of the foundation, donated $500.

"This is an exciting beginning for the foundation," Kemble said. "With the notification from the IRS and the receipt of Mr. Kiblinger's donation, we see the formation of a positive tool to support and enhance the strong educational opportunities that are offered at Centre."

People who are interested in giving to the foundation may contact the district office at 785-983-4304. A brochure also can be mailed upon request to patrons who have questions about the foundation.

The foundation's board of trustees are Ronnie Carlson, president; Terry Vinduska, vice president; Jennifer Kassebaum, secretary; Betty Bevan, treasurer; Jesse Brunner; Tracy Brunner; and Kemble. They serve in a voluntary capacity and receive no compensation for their membership on the board.
