LETTERS:   Give thanks to Dr. Hodson years ago

To the Editor:

There seems to be a lot of confusion about Dr. Linda Skiles. I would like to clarify to the public that Dr. Linda Skiles and Nita Bittle, P.A., will not be joining Marion Family Physicians.

They will both be employees of St. Luke Hospital. The hospital and board has decided to open up and run their own clinic. We did offer Dr. Skiles the opportunity to be part of our group but she wanted to be an employee of the hospital.

Dr. Hodson has been the doctor in Marion for 25 years. He has stuck by the hospital and his patients. This is a man who has given his life to this community.

There were two times over the years that he was the only doctor in town for a year and a half each time. When I say that, I mean he saw his patients at the hospital in the morning, took all the ER calls during the day while seeing a full load of patients at the clinic. The evening and night hours he would cover the ER again. He did this 24/7 including weekends for a year and a half by himself. This means he couldn't leave town. At that time, he wasn't even getting paid for covering the ER. Do you know anybody who would give up this much of their life and time?

The next time you see Dr. Hodson on the street or in the office, tell him thanks. He deserves it!
