Gloria Belton elected president of Centre FFA

At least 130 members and guests attended the annual banquet May 9 of the Centre FFA chapter.

Gloria Belton was elected president for the 2006-07 school year. Other officers are: vice president, Nellie Hill; secretary, Kristine Jirak; treasurer, Julie Rziha; reporter, Jo Terwilliger; sentinel, Andy Carlson; STUCO, Jessica Deines; historian, Alisha Barney; parliamentarian, Christa Pretz.

Nine first-year members received greenhand degrees and 18 second-year members received chapter degrees.

Belton and Steven Hageberg were recognized for earning state degrees. To gain the degree, they earned at least $2,000 with a minimum of 300 hours of work and held chapter offices or other leadership positions for at least two years.

CHS graduate Laura Klenda was recognized for obtaining the American degree, the highest degree possible.

Brandy Kaiser and Randi Smith were recognized for their work at the FFA blood drive.

Scholarship awards

Chapter awards — seniors Jackie Klenda and Tad Remy, juniors Gloria Belton, Savannah Forsberg, and Kevin Mueller; and sophomores Kylie Burhoop, Brooke Carlson, Nellie Hill, Justine Jennings, Kristine Jirak, and Julie Rziha. These members maintained an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Centre FFA Alumni Association awards — Joseph Stroda, Tad Remy, Jeremy Kristek, Klenda, and Hageberg.

Leo S. Jirak Memorial, $500 — Jackie Klenda.

Earl Wineinger award, $500 — Jackie Klenda.

Evancho scholarship, $200 — Jeremy Kristek.

Anonymous alumni awards — Tad Remy, $250; Jackie Klenda, $750. (To be received during sophomore or junior year in college.)

Francie Mueller was granted honorary membership. She was cited for her role as an alumni officer and her help in cleaning up after FFA activities.
