Goessel track coach earns award

Vanessa Schroeder, head boys' track and field coach at Goessel High School, has been named the 1A Boys' Coach of the Year for the 2007 track and field season by the Kansas Cross Country/Track and Field Coaches Association.

Schroeder was selected for this award based on the overall success of the GHS boys' team during the 2007 season.

Once notified of the award, Schroeder was quick to point out that Sandy Banman, long time GHS track and field coach, is an equal contributor to the success of the team. Schroeder said they share all coaching responsibilities.

"This honor is completely shared with Coach Banman, who has been a mentor to me in several areas of my life, including track and field," Schroeder said. "She is a highly respected track and field coach across the state, and it is a privilege to share this honor with her."

Schroeder will be presented her award at the 2008 KCCTFCA clinic at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 5, during a luncheon at the Courtyard by Marriot Convention Center at Junction City.
