The Golden Living Center Relay for Life team made just short of $1,000 more this year than last year by having two bake sales, a benefit lunch, and a karaoke party. Great work, team!

Eighteen residents watched the evening of July 3 as Claire Holub, the Bryant boys, and Hayden, Ruth Faulk's grandson, shot off an array of loud, colorful fireworks which brought many "oohs and ahhs" from the spectators.

The Bryants and Hayden spent the rest of that week enticing residents to join in various crafts, taking them on wheelchair rides outside, and bingo games.

While it rained outside, the residents enjoyed popcorn, refreshments, and watched the "Sound of Music." They all enjoy the musical movies the best. Several of the residents got together and made beautiful decorative crosses which they then arranged on a poster board to hang in the chapel.

Joyce Richmond brought communion and said the rosary with the Catholic residents Saturday morning. In the afternoon Ralph Noriega came to entertain a large group gathering. Everyone looks forward to his visits.

The Presbyterian minister conducted services July 8.

Bud Pierce is an avid puzzle fan and always has one set up working on it in his room. Jean comes in daily to visit and work the puzzles with him. The finished pieces are a treat to look at and admire all the hours spent to complete them.

Residents enjoyed a van ride July 12 through the countryside to observe the beautiful fields of corn and beans. They stopped at a Hillsboro restaurant to enjoy ice cream before heading back home.

Madonna Schafers came for rosary and communion July 14 and Good News church conducted services the afternoon of July 15.

The van left again with volunteer Clare and the residents for a trip to Newton for a lunch outing.

Helmut Wituk is a welcome sight for the residents each Friday morning at breakfast. Helmut carries a fresh pot of coffee and fills and refills cups while visiting with the group as they eat.

Roger Schwab and his students built a raised flower bed on legs in the east courtyard. The flower bed is accessible to the wheelchair residents. Many enjoy planting flowers and herbs, then weeding, watering, and watching them grow. What a neat idea.

Ten residents made cute paper bags Thursday which they decorated. The bags can be used for their articles or given away as gifts. They enjoyed ice cream as they admired each other's handiwork.

Dorothy Thornhill is having a fabulous time during her birthday month. Her children, grandchildren, and other family members arrived July 14 with three different cakes, ice cream, and music. Some members played musical instruments, much to the delight of the residents.

The monthly birthday party was July 17 and Dorothy was honored again and enjoyed refreshments that the Christian church women brought. The women also entertained with a drawing, giving many residents a chance to win prizes.

Clare Holub honored Dorothy once again July 20 with her favorite cake, angel food, along with ice cream and beverages. Dorothy will not forget her 80th birthday.

Roger Schwab had lunch Sunday with his mother, Juanita and also visited Rubena and Laura, who share the dining table with Juanita.

We will be hosting our monthly potluck Tuesday. Join us for food and visiting.
