Good helps build state s first satellite

Ethan Good, Marion High School graduate, is about to make his mark in assisting with the construction of Kansas' first satellite.

Students and faculty of the University of Kansas School of Engineering expect to launch what will be the state's first satellite designed, built, and launched into space by the state of Kansas.

The program, Kansas Universities Technology Evaluation Satellite (KUTESat), has developed a pico-satellite that will help accomplish space missions.

The 10-centimeter cube weighs less than 2.2 pounds and is designed to allow information to be shared freely among satellite development teams.

Pico-satellites carried aboard larger spacecrafts may be used to inspect the main spacecraft and perform various tasks. Fourteen CubeSatas, including the one from KU, will be launched from Kazakhstan with a larger satellite.

Good is the son of Bob and Joan Good of Marion, and is working on a master's degree in aerospace engineering.
