Gordon helps team win national title

Marion High School basketball player Toni Gordon recently took home a summer league national title with Kansas-based Twin Lake Shores team.

Gordon's team competed in the Basketball Congress International (BCI) 17/18-under national tournament.

After a first-round victory against the Grapevine (Texas) Mustangs, Twin Lakes fell to Houston Heat in the second round.

The loss dropped the girls into the loser's bracket, but it didn't seem to matter.

The all-stars rattled off five victories in a row, including a semifinal re-match with the Heat, to reach the championship game against the Kansas-based Lady Piranhas.

Twin Lakes had won seven of eight games in the tournament, while the Piranhas had played, and won, just four games.

Gordon and the Twin Lakes girls defeated the Piranhas to take the championship.

Gordon, who started at center for the team, is the daughter of Tod and Alice Gordon of Marion.
