LETTERS:   Government is greedy beast years ago

To the Editor:

Just like "tax" is a spiritual burden, so "debt" also is a burden. It robs us of the right to self-governance and personal responsibility. We know the government is in debt. And why is it in debt? Not for the reason Representative Jerry Moran says, but because it robbed the people of their right to be personally responsible for their lives.

If Moran would be honest, he would acknowledge that he himself is a part of a government that takes from the people to give to the people, and that the money for the stimulus is being borrowed because all of the money sucked out of the people is already spent and then some. What gave him and his fellow legislators the right to take this money from us in the first place? And where did that money go? And you're not only returning money to people who earned it, but much of it goes to people who paid no taxes. Why are we as American taxpayers responsible for the current debt? What have we done to incur this debt? Are our lawmakers responsible for our personal welfare? No.

Yet, they have taken that responsibility away from us. Can Jerry Moran separate himself from irresponsible government when he couldn't be where he is except at our expense? How does government by its very nature govern responsibly? How does government spend taxpayers' money responsibly? They've robbed it from us. The government is exposing itself for what it is: a greedy beast whose appetite can't be satiated. It's all about power and control. And it's going to reform itself?
