Granzow named affiliate Teacher of the Year

Kansas Association for Career and Technical Education (K-ACTE) has named Centre High School instructor Cary Granzow winner of the 2005 affiliate Teacher of the Year award.

His achievements will be recognized Aug. 3 during a lunch banquet at K-ACTE summer conference at Sheraton Overland Park Hotel.

Granzow is an instructor in the agricultural education department at Centre High School.

He was a first-year teacher when he came to Centre in 1979. Now beginning his 26th year, he helped develop many innovative, unique, and novel programs to improve and promote career and technical education.

Granzow was instrumental in developing an outstanding FFA chapter. He has the ability to find students' talents and empower them to use their full potential.

During his tenure, five students have been state FFA officers and 14 have received American FFA degrees. Numerous others have received state FFA degrees. Eight have received state proficiency awards, and one was named state farmer.

Teams in judging, parliamentary procedure, and other career development events also have won state titles and competed at the national level.

Granzow recently spearheaded an effort, approved by the school board, to combine the agriculture and industrial arts departments at Centre into one comprehensive agricultural education program.
