Gutsch receives weather service award

Scott Gutsch of Lincolnville was presented a length-of-service award Feb. 8 by the National Weather Service for providing precipitation readings for the Lincolnville area during the past 10 years.

The award was presented by Michael Rosner, Data Acquisition Program Manager at the National Weather Service in Wichita.

Gutsch is part of a national network of more than 11,000 weather observers.

The data is collected and sent to the National Climatic Data Center and to the Weather Data Library at Kansas State University.

Data provided by observers is available to the public and is used widely for climatological studies, as well as by businesses and the media.
