Gutsch scores 29 points in CHS girls' win over Lebo years ago

Seifert, Luna lead Centre girls in win over Solomon

At Lebo

The CHS girls' varsity chalked up another win Friday on the road against Lebo.

Megan Gutsch had an outstanding night, scoring a record-breaking 29 points, including nine field goals and 11-of-12 free throws. Alyssa Luna also scored in double digits with 16 points.

After a slow 9-7 start in the first quarter, the Lady Cougars, led by four field goals and two free throws by Gutsch, built their lead to 23-13 at halftime.

Lebo came back stronger in the second half, but the Centre girls were able to pace them, keeping the lead for an 11-point win.

After Friday's win, the Lady Cougars had a record of 13-3.

At Solomon

Games played at Solomon Jan. 30 resulted in wins for the girls' basketball teams.

The varsity defeated Solomon, 61-49. The Lady Cougars led all the way after an 18-11 first quarter. They were ahead by 16 points, 52-36, at the end of the third quarter, but were outscored 13-9 in the fourth, resulting in an 11-point win.

Almost all the points scored in the game were from the field. Only four were completed from the free-throw line, three by Solomon and one by Brittany Owens of Centre.

Selena Seifert and Luna had a good night, compiling 21 and 20 points, respectively. Kylie Burhoop also scored in double digits with 10 points.

The win was their 12th of the season.

The junior varsity won, 47-14.

Nellie Hill led scoring with 15 points, followed by Leann Pankratz with 12. Brooke Carlson and Shelby Deines added six each, Bridgette Burns, Josie Peterson, and Gloria Belton four each, and Carlye Simons, Amy Hajek, and Samantha Seifert two each.
