Harry Cheever

Harry L. Cheever, 82, of Ramona, died June 8, 2005, at St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

The son of Asa and Jessie (Lamb) Cheever, he was born Aug. 9, 1922, at Lost Springs.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart.

On Sept. 14, 1942, he married Imogene Davis at Council Grove.

He was a patrolman and ran the road maintainer for Marion County for more than 40 years. He was a member of Tampa American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ernest and Roy; and three sisters, Arlene Bragg, Eva Cheever, and Edna Cheever.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene of Marion; two sons, Dennis Cheever of Wichita and Ron Cheever of Chapman; daughter, Judy Laney of Cottonwood Falls; stepson, Garry Kuether of Augusta; sister, Etta Mae Hartke of Herington; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, with the Rev. Jorge Arvelo officiating.

Burial with full military honors was in Lost Springs Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with Tampa American Legion.
