Hazel Stenzel

Hazel Glendine Stenzel, 95, of Springfield, Mo., died June 19, 2005.

Born Aug. 1, 1909, in Marion County, she was the daughter of Isaac and Halcie Hawbecker.

She attended school in Marion County, where she met Milton Stenzel. The couple was married Nov. 22, 1932.

They lived on a farm northeast of Marion near Antelope, then moved to the home place along U.S.-77. They raised three daughters there, moving to Marion in 1958.

Hazel worked at Dairy Palace for many years. After her husband died in 1978, she continued living in their home in Marion until she moved to Springfield, Mo., in 1984, to live with her daughter and son-in-law.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and baking. She also embroidered pillow cases and crocheted afghans, doilies, and rag rugs.

She was an active member of Strassburg Baptist Church before moving to Springfield. There she was a member of Glendale Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters, Irene Santoyo and Laverna Kline.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna Seifert of McPherson, Neva Winsky of Springfield, Mo., and Naomi Babb of Wichita; sister, Leona Morgan of Topeka; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren;

Graveside services were conducted Saturday morning at Marion Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with Community Hospice of America, Springfield, Mo.
