Herchel Crainer Jr.

Herchel Americus Crainer, Jr., 74, of Franklin, Texas, died Oct. 2, 2005, at his home.

Born Jan. 19, 1931, at Port Bolivar, Texas, he was the son of Herchel Americus and Jewel (Richmond) Crainer.

He attended school in Pasadena, Texas, and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He received the United Nations Service Medal, Navy Occupation Medal, and the Korean Service Medal.

On Oct. 11, 1965, he married Norma Lou Sly at Marion. She died in 1982.

He retired in 1994 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where he was employed for 35 years as a land surveyor.

He had been a resident of Franklin, Texas, for the past 11 years, previously living in Marion.

He was a member of Marion Christian Church and the Masonic Lodge #359, Franklin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Herchel and K.T. Crainer of Hutchinson; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Gaylen Tucker of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Janet and Rufus Hones of Franklin, Texas, and Doris Martin of Pasadena, Texas; and four grandchildren, Caleb J. Crainer, Holly R. Crainer, Grant Tucker, and Crystal Tucker.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McCauley Funeral Home chapel, Franklin, with the Rev. Jim Manning of First Baptist Church, Franklin, officiating.

Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Franklin.

A memorial fund has been established with Masonic Lodge #359, Franklin, Texas.
