Historical marker dedication

A new historical marker honoring those involved in construction of Marion County Park and Lake will be dedicated at 5 p.m. Saturday in front of the CCC statue along Lakeshore Drive near Upland Road.

Family members of the late Edward C. McBurney plan to attend. McBurney was a civil engineer employed with the Soil Conservation Service and was superintendent over construction of the dam in 1937.

The commemorative marker was paid for by the McBurney family to honor their father and those who worked with and for him.

Son Cleland and his wife and two grandchildren and their spouses are planning to attend.

The public is invited to the dedication ceremony. Local people who knew the McBurney family when they lived in Marion are encouraged to attend and take this opportunity to meet family members.
