Holdeman retains seat; Smith new member

Preliminary results indicated Marion city voters wanted some of the same and some changes.

After the votes were tallied from Tuesday's election, incumbent Bill Holdeman and Steven Smith were elected to two Marion City Council seats occupied by Holdeman and Jerry Kline.

Kline, who was defeated in the primary election, made a valiant effort with a write-in campaign but fell short of being one of the two top vote-getters to retain his seat.

Holdeman had 226 votes and Smith had 201.

The other two candidates, Gerald Henderson and Katherine DeFilippis had 193 and 161 votes, respectively.

Kline had 165 write-in votes.

A total of 464 residents voted compared with 369 in the primary.

Marion County Commission will verify election results at Monday's commission meeting.
