Ice storm was both 'beauty and beast'

In all of my 100 years I have never seen an ice storm like this. At least I don't remember it. The tops of the trees are gorgeous with the covering of sparkling ice. If I look below them it looks like a war area.

Along with many others I was without lights or heat for quite a while. My family made arrangements with Marion Manor to take me in. They did the same for my friend, Margaret. The staff there was so hospitable and friendly. They made us feel very comfortable. Another person who contributed to our comfort was Kay Navrat. She brought out dozens of knitted wool throws from her store for the residents to use.

I hear that there are thousands in the area who still are without electricity, especially Wichita. I can feel for them and pray that they will soon have it.

Here are some of the people who stood out for me in the past year. There is no rhyme nor reason in the way I mention them. Julia Childs, a favorite, died. Martha Stewart got in trouble. I hope she plans to do her program on TV again. Colin Powell always helped to restore confidence in worldly problems. Christopher Reeve, who died, was such a brave man. President George W. Bush and Laura as our strong leaders; Julie Andrews, a wonderful actress; Mel Gibson who had the courage to direct and produce the wonderful movie on the life of Christ; Maria Shriver who stood by her man and writes lovely children books.

Who do you choose as outstanding people of 2004?
