Insurance provider submits proposals

Marion City Commission met Monday with a short agenda that resulted in a short meeting.

Mark Bieberle of Medova Health Insurance Company was given a second opportunity to present city employee health insurance proposals.

The previous week, Medova Health Insurance Company and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas, the city's current carrier, were given opportunities to present proposals for the coming year. Medova requested and received permission to be placed on this week's agenda to present lower bids.

The commission took the new information under advisement and will make a decision at next week's meeting. The premium comes due March 1.

In other business:

— The commission approved a resolution that appointed David Mayfield, city administrator, as the local freedom of information officer for the city.

— Three transfers were approved. They were $27,680 from general fund to bond and interest fund for debt service on the industrial park, $44,272 from electric fund and $78,706 from water fund to bond and interest for debt service.

— A resolution was approved to waive statutory requirement to use generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in preparation of financial statements and reports.

— Jami Williams, economic development director, reported a high-speed Internet line will be installed to accommodate Seacat Hardware at Marion Business Park.

— Public utilities director Harvey Sanders reported a new pump was installed on a lift station in the 600 block of South Lincoln, a valve box was extended on a water line to Marion Reservoir, new service installed at 548 Washington Street, and new transformers at Third and Water streets.

— Assistant city clerk Angela Lange reported auditors will conduct the annual audit the week of Feb. 13.

— Warrants for $25,367 were approved.

— A 10-minute executive session was called with city attorney Dan Baldwin. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

The next commission meeting is at 4 p.m. Monday at the city building.
