Intentions

Good or bad, intentions often are sidetracked, misunderstood, or lost along the way.

Last week this column announced it would return to this page on a regular basis. That was good intentioned.

A short trip to Texas and the Mexican border changed that. Your former Ol' Editor returned from the long-mile car trip exhausted and with some sort of bronchial bug (shared by Friend Wife) along with a recurrence of heart/lung congestion problems.

Several days at home followed by nearly a week in the local hospital, then home again, have seen the problem continue with no significant improvement.

Your OE realizes he had reason for punishment, but doubts that even his most vehement enemies (both of them) would approve such drastic treatment.

The best thing to come of the ordeal is that FW (though equally as ill) has managed to keep on top of things at home; and again the OE has learned that the measure of a hospital is not the stone and mortar, or the equipment, it's the staff.

The level of care at St. Luke Hospital surpasses all others. We in Marion County are fortunate to have such a high level of medical care and compassion available locally.

No matter how unpleasant it is to be down and out, it's good to be able to measure our local facilities as the finest.
