Staff reporter

An interim chief financial officer at St. Luke Hospital will arrive this week to replace Kevin Cronkleton.

The board of directors of Marion County Hospital District #1 received this information Thursday from administrator Thom Smith.

Hank DeBrogga is provided by Quorum Health Services, the district's consultant, and will serve in the position until the district and hospital administration have a chance to hire a replacement.

Cronkleton, who resigned to pursue other interests, had been with the hospital for three years. His last day was Friday.

The district will pay the temporary employee on a monthly basis.

In other business:

— Cronkleton presented information to the board regarding the possibility of transferring ownership of real estate property owned by the district to St. Luke Hospital Foundation. The property would not be a part of the hospital.

The purpose of transferring ownership would be for Medicare reimbursement purposes.

Cronkleton explained the district could receive more reimbursement at the end of the fiscal year from Medicare if it owned less non-hospital property.

Smith will prepare a proposal for both entities.

— Janet Bowers has been hired as dietary manager, replacing Betty Snelling who is retiring.

— Medical credentials and privileges were approved for three doctors who provide services at the hospital.

— Cheryl Connell reported the Dinky Duck Race as part of Chingawassa Days raised approximately $6,400.

— The board approved $257,806 in accounts payable.

— Smith clarified that surgeon Dr. Stephen Cranston will continue performing surgeries at the hospital until another surgeon can be contracted.

A meeting was held to discuss a contract with surgeons and the chief executive officer from Memorial Hospital of McPherson. Smith will bring a proposal to the next board meeting.

— A 20-minute executive session to discuss personnel was requested by board president Gene Winkler. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

The next board meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the clinic basement.
