Irene Houser

Irene F. Houser, 96, died March 2, 2006, at Abilene.

Born April 11, 1909, at Durham, she was the daughter of Cameron and Amelia (Weimer) Smith.

She graduated from Durham High School in 1928. After high school, she attended the University of Kansas for two years and taught in rural schools in McPherson County.

On Nov. 7, 1930, she married George W. Houser. He died in 1974.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gilman Smith; and two sisters, Betty Smith and Ona Donahue.

Survivors include a son, Kenton Houser of Kansas City, Mo.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at First Presbyterian Church, Abilene, with pastor Robert H. Frasier officiating.

Burial was in Abilene Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
