LETTERS:   It's all about greed years ago

To the Editor:

Harry Bennett in his letter to the editor this past week and others like him are so quick to damn coal and mining companies. I suppose he would also include commercial farming, big oil, etc. Isn't that self-justification? Because in his organic business, he's eager to get all he can for the products he markets, which depends on the consumer having lots of money.

Don't our government leaders set policy and laws in regards to the economy? What is it? Consume! Consume! Not responsibility. What sacrifices do our leaders make? They are our examples. They encourage us in our greed!

Instead of our (wise) leaders acknowledging their failed economic policy of spend, spend, and consume, which exposes our greed and theirs, they want to force us to go green. So now, greed is good!

Reminds me of a time when to gamble was to be irresponsible. Thanks to our leaders giving us the lottery and casinos, it's now respectable to gamble. Who profits, and does it improve the quality of life?

How eager we are to blame the private sector for our consumption!

Greedy? Who isn't? There are those who say, "I'm not like that." Isn't it greed by the very fact that they justify themselves? These activists attack all these things, like coal-fired power plants. Isn't that just a cover-up for their own greed?

Do we ever consider, maybe it's us, every last one of us! Like this push for going green. Will that stop greed? Global warming is becoming big business. It's still greed because they are using it to make money. Now there's carbon credits for farmers, organic farming, huge grants, and incentives for all kinds of alternative sources of energy. Is that to justify greed?

Just a transfer of wealth, right? Are we earning it? Now the government is coming up with a huge stimulus package. It's about creating artificial money for the purpose of self-indulgence. Isn't that greed? What fools we are! Do we ever say, give us less? We expect more whether or not we earn it.

Is man greater than his creator? Can we pollute the world to our own destruction, or will greed destroy us? Does man have the power to destroy the physical world? Or will he rather destroy himself?

Isn't it greed that creates these issues? If we weren't greedy, we wouldn't be having these discussions.

Does anybody say, I want less wages and benefits, less profits?

What good does it do to go all green? Will that justify our greed, will that save us from our greed?
