It's crucial to be informed

Marion voters will have an opportunity to hear from mayoral candidates before the Feb. 27 primary election.

A candidate forum will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 18 at Marion Senior Center. Candidates for mayor will be there to hear from constituents and answer questions.

This is an excellent opportunity for the candidates to introduce themselves to the voters and explain their plans for running city government.

Even more important, this forum is a way for voters to gain knowledge of the candidates and prepare to go to the polls Feb. 27 to make an informed choice for mayor.

We are fortunate to have St. Luke Hospital here in Marion. The doctors and nurses are competent professionals who sincerely care about their patients. If you don't believe this, try getting individualized care at a big-city hospital.

The justice center issue is heating up and causing lots of comment from both sides.

Having decided not to force the issue on the April ballot, the county commission is taking the right path.

This will give them an opportunity to extensively study the issue, gather all the facts, look at all the options, and reach a reasonable solution.

Again, it will be up to the voters to get the facts and make an informed vote when the question comes before us.

To become informed, we'll have to look at the issue objectively and reasonably, consider the pros and cons, and understand the "what-ifs" and "why nots" of doing something or doing nothing.

Voters have some tough decisions coming before them in the next several months. Making informed decisions will be crucial to the future of our city and county. Get the facts.
