It s the end of the run for Marion motorcycle event

After four years, the annual KVC Behavioral HealthCare Ride for Kids will no longer be held in Marion.

The event, conducted Saturday in Central Park, was marginally successful, said Kathy Holub, event organizer and KVC resource specialist.

Heat was a factor in limiting the number of participants, she said. This year 30 motorcyclists participated. In past years, twice to three times as many did.

A poker run, barbecue, and drawings were held during the morning.

Winners of the poker run were: first, Roger Hannaford, a quilt made by Audrey McLinden of Custom Threads, valued at $150; second, Marlin Buchholz, $100 cash; and third, Robert Gillett, a motorcycle helmet valued at $40.

Rose Vinduska won a 19-inch television and DVD player. All winners were from Marion.

Holub said she and the not-for-profit organization appreciated the crowd and donations.Donations will be used to support programs within the foster care program.

Next year, the event will be held in the Kansas City area, near the KVC corporate office.
