Jack Swain recognized for 60 years as American Legion member years ago

Jack Swain was recognized Aug. 29, for 60 years of continuous membership to American Legion Post #22 of Marion at the organization's meeting.

Reports of post activities were presented.

Five Marion boys recently attended Boy's State at Manhattan.

Swain and his wife Ella were thanked for the years they have been placing small American flags on veterans' graves at Marion Cemetery on Memorial Day.

Officers were elected for the coming year. They are Roger (Bud) Hannaford, commander; Jack Beaston, vice commander; Forrest Smith, adjutant; Leland Heidebrecht, finance officer; Jim Fruechting, chaplain; Rosse Case, historian; and Jack Swain, service officer.

Don Fruechting was elected to the board of trustees, filling the vacancy caused by the death of longtime member Bill Meyer.
