Jayson Hanschu to speak at CHS athletic banquet

Jayson Hanschu, a 1984 Centre High School graduate, will be guest speaker Tuesday at the athletic banquet at Centre High School. Hanschu operates an insurance agency in Hillsboro.

Parents and patrons are invited to attend the event, which recognizes the accomplishments of student athletes during this academic year.

The banquet will be at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. It will be a potluck supper. Those with last names beginning with A-M may bring a salad and dessert, and those with last names N-Z may bring a meat dish and dessert.

Drink, rolls, and butter will be furnished, but guests are asked to bring their own table service.

Youth to participate in Law Day at auditorium

A mock trial will be held at 1:30 p.m. May 1 at Marion City Auditorium.

Members of the Marion High School Youth Court team have been selected to be jurors and attorneys and Ed Wheeler will preside.

About 70 eighth and ninth graders from five area schools will observe the trial.

Law Day is a national day set aside to celebrate the rule of law. Law Day underscores how law and the legal process have contributed to the freedoms that all Americans share. The 2006 theme for Law Day is "Liberty Under Law: Separate Branches, Balanced Powers."
