Jean Ann Calaway

Jean Ann Calaway, 65, died April 16, 2008, at Fort Worth, Texas, after a long battle with cancer.

Jean was born Oct. 13, 1942, at Marion, to Harry and Edna Dody, where she grew up on a farm.

She attended grade school at County School #56 and graduated from Marion High School. She graduated from Emporia State Teachers College.

She was employed at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. She later worked for the U.S. Air Force Tactical Airlift Command at Wiesbaden, Germany. While in Germany, she met her husband, James R. Calaway.

In 1970, Jean returned from Germany and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, to be near her future husband who was attending college in South Texas.

Jean and Cal were married in 1973, and later moved to Arlington, Texas, where she was employed in private industry for several years before taking a job with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the DFW area offices. She retired from the Corps in 1988.

Jean was an avid Texas Rangers baseball fan and has been a member of the Texas Rangers Women's Club since it organized in 1974. She served as president from 1984-1987. She was a season ticket holder and enjoyed all of the games. Jean loved the Texas Rangers and baseball, but she equally loved the women who shared her passion for baseball and the many charitable organizations the TRWC supports.

Jean was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Arlington.

She was a very patriotic person and loved her country.

Survivors include her husband, James R. Calaway; brothers, Glenn, Gail, and Donald Dody; sisters, Doris Penner and Viola Bernhardt; numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and her TRWC family.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday at Arlington (Texas) Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at 9 a.m. Monday at DFW National Cemetery, Lane A.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Arlington Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to donor's choice of charities.
