Jess Richmond

Jess Randolph Richmond, 88, died Jan. 30, 2005, at his home in Marion.

Born Jan. 18, 1917, at Marion, he was the son of George and Lena (Kreutziger) Richmond.

He was raised in Marion County and attended Morning Star School.

On Nov. 20, 1937, he married Martha Madsen. The couple had three children and farmed in Marion County until moving to southwest Missouri in 1948.

Jess was hired by Boeing at Wichita in1950, and the family moved back to Kansas. He continued to work at Boeing for 29 years, retiring in 1979, when he and Martha moved back to Marion.

Martha died in 1982.

On Oct. 17, 1982, he married Irene Smith in Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Martha; two brothers, Glen and Clyde; a sister, Ruth; and son-in-law, Don Burkholder.

Survivors include his wife, Irene of Marion: a son, Kurt of Aledo, Ill.; two daughters, Reta and husband Joe Myers of Mineola, Texas, and Connie Stephens of Emporia; two stepdaughters, Elsie Burkholder and Feebie and husband Bill Holdeman, all of Marion; a sister, Jane Williams of Marion; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Sherfy and David Branson officiating.

Burial will be in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with the church or Marion Fire Department equipment fund.
