Jewell Davis

Jewell Glind Davis, 82, died Aug. 23, 2006, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita.

Born Jan. 26, 1924, at Olney, Ky., he was the son of Charlie and Dixie (Stallins) Davis.

He grew up in Kentucky and came to Kansas with the U.S. Army as a guard for the prison camp at Peabody during World War II.

On Oct. 3, 1944, he married Naomi Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bertha Lacy and Birdie Holman; and four brothers, Alvin, James, Junior, and Elmer Davis.

Survivors include his wife, Naomi; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Jay Cook of Peabody and Lynda and Glenn Bright of Newton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Peabody Christian Church.

Casket bearers were Jerry Foth, W.G. Cook, Dennis Pickens, Earl Janzen, Larry Watts, and David Gaines. Honorary casket bearers were Tony Gaines, John Topham, Lee Rempel, and Bob Harper.

Burial was in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.

A memorial fund has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita 67202.
