Jirak, Klenda lead Centre boys at Council Grove

Centre High School track squad came up against tough competition April 19 at Council Grove. Few members were able to place in the top six in their events.

Seth Jirak and Alfonse Klenda had the best showing. Jirak finished first in men's shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 1.25 inches. Klenda won the men's javelin with a throw of 164-2.

Brittany Owens finished third in women's javelin with a throw of 107-4. A 4x100m girls' relay team also finished third.

Both teams finished eighth out of 10 teams.

At Marion

Centre teams placed fourth of five April 24 at Marion's invitational track meet.

Kylie Burhoop placed first in high jump at 4-8. Klenda repeated his previous performance in the javelin throw, with a first-place finish of 143-3.

Jirak placed second in shot put with a throw of 44-5.5 and second in discus at 159-5. Nick Cole placed second in long jump at 18-.25.
