John Mellott
John E. Mellott, 91, Peabody, died Nov. 13, 2007.
He was born Feb. 12, 1916, at Peabody, the fifth child of James and Lula (Taylor) Mellott. On April 7, 1937 he married Elda Schmidt.
John was a lifelong farmer. In addition he worked at Beech Aircraft and a Newton flour mill. He also worked construction in the area and opened graves at area cemeteries.
He was preceded in death by twin sons, Leslie and Lyle; his parents; three brothers, Earl, Willis, and Marvin; and two sisters, Gladys and Thelma.
Survivors include his wife, Elda; a son, Richard and wife Vickie of Peabody; daughters, Joan and husband Jerry Jost of Hillsboro, and Esther and husband Jon Brooks of Peabody; sister, Doris Hansen of Newton; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Peabody Christian Church with Pastor Jim Pohlman officiating. Burial was in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
A memorial has been established with Peabody Christian Church.
