John Schlesener

Ellwood "Woody" John Schlesener, 92, died Oct. 22, 2005, at Billings, Mont.

Born July 30, 1913, at Hope, he was the son of Gotthilf and Maria (Weber) Schlesener.

He attended Hope High School, graduating in 1933.

On Feb. 4, 1940, he married Lorene Schimming at Herington.

After 21 years of farming in the Youngtown community, he and his family moved to Great Falls, Mont., in 1961, where he was employed by a construction company as a blasting supervisor, building missile silos in northern and central Montana.

When the missile sites were completed, he became a blasting superintendent for Interstate highway construction in Montana, and later the Four Corners area of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. In 1978, he retired and moved back to Montana.

He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Dennis Schlesener, who died in 1988.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene of Billings, Mont.; three sons, Willard Schlesener of Gridley, Calif., LeRoy Schlesener of Laurel, Mont., and Rodney Schlesener of Safford, Ariz.; daughter, Karen Oset of Billings, Mont.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 29 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church.

Memorial funds have been established with Mount Olive Organ Fund or The Lutheran Hour.
