John Theodore Clausen

John Clausen was born on a farm four miles east of Peabody, to Samuel Theodore and Mertie Beeton Clausen on Dec. 8, 1913.

He died Oct. 24, 2007.

He raised cattle and farmed with his father and later, with his wife, Eleanor Lake Clausen for several years. In the 1950s, John and Eleanor moved to Peabody. John worked at Hesston Corporation, retiring after 30 years there.

Pearl Watts became John's wife several years after Eleanor's death. She also preceded him in death, as did his sister, Geraldine (Jerry) Heath of Marion.

After his retirement, John found pleasure in his woodworking shop, and made many inviting park benches which are to be seen around Peabody. He also enjoyed walking, lawn work, and the many woodworking projects which he contributed to Legacy Park, where he resided at the time of his death. He will be missed by his many friends there.

John is survived by his nieces, Mary Heath Gibson and her husband, John (Hoot) Gibson of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jan Hipple Heath of Overland Park; six great-nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Harold Dyck of Peabody.

Memorial services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Peabody at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Robert Kloth officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
